Burpham

A suburb of Guildford with a historic village centre, a parade of small shops on London Road and Sutherland Memorial Park.

Burpham is a suburb of Guildford with a historic village centre. It has a parade of small shops on the London Road, George Abbot School and the Sutherland Memorial Park.

Where it is

Burpham borders Merrow to the south-east and Jacobs Well to the north-west, and is separated from Merrow by the New Guildford Line, the railway between Guildford and Effingham Junction.

A little history

Burpham appears in the Domesday Book as Borham. It was known as the manor of Burpham, or Burgham, in Worplesdon until its church was consecrated. From 1720 the manor was owned by the Onslow family, who were frequent MPs for Guildford.
